Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my portrait session?

I book a limited number of sessions each month so that each client receives my personal attention.  To ensure your desired session time, please contact me as soon as you know you would like to book a session, especially if you would like your session to take place during the fall or spring.

Where will my session take place?

I photograph children on-location using only natural light.  I particularly enjoy photographing babies and children in their homes for two reasons.  First, home is where and babies and children are most comfortable, resulting in the most natural smiles and expressions.   Second, I believe that the images you and your children will treasure most are those that resonate with your memories.  I also find Houston’s yards and tree lined streets serve as the perfect neutral backdrop for outdoor portraits.  That said, Houston has many lovely parks and other unexpected locations that make for wonderful portraits sessions.   I’m happy to work with you to choose the best location to suit your needs.

How long will my session last?

Your session will last from 1-2 hours.

What happens if it rains?

Because I am a natural light photographer, we will reschedule if it rains.

Do you photograph families?

Absolutely.  Just keep in mind that my style is documentary in nature—I do not strive for traditional poses with everyone smiling at the camera.  Please review my portfolio to ensure that my style matches your photography needs.

Do you photograph newborns?

I love capturing newborns in their first few weeks at home.  As with all sessions, my newborn sessions are purely documentary.  If you desire a  newborn session with structured poses and props, I urge you to consider one of the many other Houston newborn photographers who specialize in this type of photography.

What can I do to help my session go smoothly?

Make sure that your kids are not tired or hungry, and let me do the rest.  Remember that you’ve hired me because I enjoy working with children even more than I enjoy photography.  You don’t need to threaten, bribe, or otherwise coerce your children to smile for the camera.  That’s my job!  In all seriousness, children often reserve their most challenging behavior for their parents. Unless you have a baby or very young toddler (and sometimes even then), you will probably get the best results if you use the session to take a break and let me do the work. I have yet to meet a parent who couldn’t use a break!

What should we wear?

I recommend clothing that coordinates without matching exactly.  Children should wear comfortable clothes that they like, although it is generally best to avoid busy patterns and logos.  I’m happy to work with you to select clothing for your session, and will also accommodate clothing changes if you’d like a variety of looks.

How many proofs can I expect to receive, and when will I receive my proofs?

You will receive at least 3o images in your gallery, often more.  Client galleries are available for review approximately two weeks after a session.

Do you photograph in both color and black and white?

Yes.  However, unless you request otherwise, the proofs in your gallery will be shown only  in color.  When you purchase a digital file you will receive a black and white copy of each image at no additional charge.

Do you sell digital files?

Yes, digital files may be purchased alone or in addition to prints.

How long do you retain the digital negatives for my images?

Any unordered images will be deleted six months after your order is finalized.
